Early Excitement

Before we begin...this movie doesn't come out for another year, but that doesn't stop me from planning on seeing it...you know, last March.

I am a fan of the book.  People often overlook it because it's not really anything like Twilight and when you're reading something from Stephenie Meyer, you're thinking vampires, werewolves, brooding teens and love triangles.

The host has supernatural elements and a love...tangling, the similarities stop there.  I don't know why but I'm drawn to dystopian themed books.  Hunger Games, Matched & Crossed, and the Host.  If you know more books along these lines I'm always looking for something new.

And I got all excited when I read about the cast:

Melanie Stryder/ Wanderer:

Saoirse Ronan.  (Pronounced Shur-sa) from "The Lovely Bones" and "Hanna"

The "Seeker":

I wouldn't have thought about it, but I like it.

"Uncle Jeb":

I hope to see him all Uncle Jebbed out, it will help a lot.  I think I'll like him playing a crazy old guy with a shotgun though.

Ian:

In case you're scratching your head wondering where you saw him before - he's Mark from I am Number Four.  My thoughts on this choice: Meh.  But we'll see if he surprises me.

Jared:

I don't know much about him, but again, it's too early to tell if he can be the Jared I picture.  (I totally sounded "fan girl" just then.  I apologize.  It won't happen again.)

Jamie:

Not what I pictured.  I pictured Jamie being older, but again - the movie doesn't come out for a year.

Other characters:

Scott Lawrence                                Frances Fisher                                Boyd Holbrook

I am currently re-reading the book.  For those of you thinking about starting - a warning: there's a LOT of story development.  If you can get through that (it is important) you will love the book.

That is all.

  1. I liked it, but didn't love it. I think I should read it again though. I wasn't in a great reading place at the time.

  2. I'm with you. I really liked the book but I've lent it to a few people but no one can ever get through it. I think the plot development bores them but once I got past that part of the book, I couldn't put it down.

    I can't wait for the movie :)
