Craft Revisited: Playing Copycat - tray centerpiece

I'm a frequent visitor of Lemon Tree Creations. They constantly have great ideas that don't break the budget. And then last year I saw this post about creating a tray out of an old picture frame - which I LOVED!

I decided it would be ADORABLE on my kitchen table - different and interesting. So I walked around, priced things out and decided it would be MUCH cheaper if I just bought a wood tray from Hobby Lobby. So that's what I did.

The tray came to about $3 since it was 50% off. I bought some scrapbook paper and cracked out some mod podge.

Since I'm terrible at taking pictures before and during - I only have after shots but it's not hard to see how this happened.

I painted the tray white, sanded the edges a little bit. I wish I had some distress ink because that would have helped - it's on the list of craft supplies I need to buy. After that I applied the scrapbook paper to the inside of the tray. Once that was dry - it was complete!

I added a candle and a mason jar which STILL needs some cute flowers - possibly some hydrangeas?

I have to admit, it isn't nearly as cute as the original I tried to copycat, but it's there...but it could use some more accessories and punches of color...I have to admit. Also - some distress paint.

Until then - it sits plain on my kitchen table.
