I have a confession to make. I'm completely addicted to Lucky magazine. The day a new issue arrives in the mail, I anxiously look forward to my Little Crafter's naptime so that I can curl up with my magazine and a cup of coffee and see what's new in the fashion world. One of the most practical tips I've learned and put into practice is using bright pops of color to liven up a dark outfit. As a dance instructor, I tend to have a lot more black clothing than the average person, so I find myself using this tip quite often. It's always fun to wear a bright pair of shoes {I know Jessa is a huge fan of those too!}, a colorful scarf, or carry a playful bag to do the trick. Hair accessories work well too...one of my favorites is this headband from Luxe Boulevard.

Lately, though, I've been getting into jewelry making, so I've been working on lots of unique, bright accessories. For example, here I am wearing a fun pink bracelet I made with a fabulous dress from Express {that I paid $9 for!}.

Today, I wanted to show you how to make your own pair of fun, bright earrings. They're really simple, so even if you've never ever made jewelry before, you can do it! Ready? Here they are!

I decided to make them a combination of hot pink, orange, and yellow so that they'll really stand out with a black outfit or match anything that has one of those colors in it. You can make them with any color beads you like. Here's how to do it:

POP OF COLOR EARRINGS

Materials:

2" eye pins

ear wires

4 10mm beads: the ones I used are cracked glass beads from the Potomac Bead Company, but you can use any color and type

6 small silver beads: these are available anywhere you buy jewelry supplies

needle nose pliers

wire cutters

STEP 1: Place your beads on an eye pin in a pattern you like.

STEP 2: Use needle nose pliers to bend the leftover part of the eye pin at a 90 degree angle.

STEP 3: Use wire cutters to trim it to about the length of your pinky fingernail.

STEP 4: Grab wire with needle nose pliers and bend into a loop {it's easiest to do this if you bend away from yourself}

STEP 5: Gently twist open loop on ear wire with needle nose pliers and attach to your earring. Twist ear wire tightly closed.

Ta da! That's all there is to it! Now you have a fun pair of earrings that will add some bright summer fun to any outfit. Not to mention that it's also my birthday week-the awesome 28- (yes I celebrate ALL week, why not right?!) so what better place to be than here with you?! (you know, since I guess we can't be with her)

I use my little corner of the blogging universe to share my creative ideas that involve easy DIY projects for the home, craft ideas for kids, thrift store makeovers, and holiday decorating (the reason I started blogging!). My life is over-flowing with Sweet Love and I needed a place to share it!!

So today, in honor of being on a total fashionista blog, I wanted to share a recent gift I made for my little (16 yr. old) sister! I call it the
Picture Frame Jewelry Organizer:

While I was down visiting there a couple weeks ago, I noticed she had jewelry everyyyywherrrre! And since the kidlets and I were staying in her room (and they love jewelry possibly even more than I do-yep even my little boy) they were constantly getting into it. I figured rather than have to buy her all new jewelry I'd just make her something to store it all on so I wouldn't have to keep little hands out of it. And it's SO cute so why not?!


Here's a quick tutorial in case you want to make your own!

First I found a cheap $2 frame at a thrift store:


My sister picked out the colors that she wanted and she chose this pretty aqua/turquoisy color :)


Next the hubby and I went and picked up an {ultra} thin piece of plywood from the hardware store and he cut it (using a utility knife since my mom didn't have a saw-the preferred and normal way to cut wood :) ) to fit the frame.




After picking some fabric out of my mom's stash we glued in to the wood using wood glue-making sure to pull tightly against the board so the fabric laid flat.




The finished board fit perfectly, snuggly into the frame as it was, so no extra support was needed to hold it in.


I screwed in 6 medium hooks (that I spray painted black) into the upper portion of the fabric board; meant to be used for necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc.


3 large hooks into the wood on the bottom of the actual frame to hang bigger items like scarves, hats, chunky bracelets, etc.


The very top of the fabric board I was going to screw in 5 small hooks for earrings, and then remembered my sister doesn't have her ears pierced so I didn't end up putting them in, but that's what the empty space on top is for! :)


And that's it! So simple, so cute and so fun for ANY girl ANY age! I'm on the lookout now for the perfect frame to make my own!

I am going to show you how to make a cute,

bracelet that you will {LOVE}!

So, lets get started on how to make your very own

rosette & ribbon bracelet!

What you will need:
fabric {5 strips}
ribbon {20"}
tulle {1 strip}
hot glue gun & glue sticks
felt
scissors

Step {1}

Take your fabric & cut it into 5 strips
{all the same length-- I did mine about 22" x 1.5"}

Now, we are going to make some rosettes!
{I promise its easy as pie}
Take your first strip & tie a double knot in the end of it.
Now start twisting your fabric and wrapping it around your knot as you go. Continue this twist & wrap until all your fabric is gone.

{I like the frayed edges for a vintage look.
If you don't you can trim them or use a different kind of fabric.}

Once your rosette is done,
you want to put glue all over the back of your rosette
and firmly press it to your felt.





Now once you have made all five rosettes and glued them to felt, then you want to cut them out.

{tip: cut them as close to glue as you can so you do not see felt later.}
Step {2}
Next, find the center of your ribbon.
Apply hot glue to the ribbon where you want first rosette to sit. Press rosette firmly to ribbon. Continue glueing all 5 rosettes side by side.

To avoid a gap between flowers,
place a dab of glue on side of rosette and push together.

Step {3}

Take a piece of tulle, the same length as your ribbon.

Stretch it out the length of ribbon, then tie a knot on underside of ribbon in between last two rosettes.

I then wrapped tulle in between each rosette twice to fill in the gap a bit more until I got to the last two rosettes.

Once I finished I tied another knot underneath ribbon.

 Step {4}
Take your tulle & ribbon and tie a bow.

Window Shopping 7/13

 Its finally mid-week.

And not to sound like bragging...but today is my Friday.  I leave....REALLY, REALLY early tomorrow morning.  The out-the-door time is set for 4:00 a.m.

So I'll get home in time to greet family making a pit-stop at our place, maybe order a pizza and then it's an eraly bedtime.

There's still a ton of stuff that needs to get done.  Luckily most of them are on my husband's to-do list - not mine.  But I still worry about his to-do list...because I guess that's part of being a wife.

So today is my last post until after the 23rd.  Who knows maybe I'll share some fun pictures of the trip if I can get organized after I get home.  I usually have vacation-brain for at least 3-4 days after long trips.  I know, I'll get zero sympathy for it too.


That means this is the last Window Shoppin' post until the 27th!

Now...I don't wear gold.  It's true - the only place I'll wear it is on my eyelids.  I don't know why - I don't have any ill feelings towards gold - I just prefer silver when it comes to wearing metallics.  But this outfit calls for gold - it just does.  Especially that cuff - because it's really cute.  Also - that Jessica Simpson bag is called for as well.  While it's a little too warm here for this outfit - I still think its cute.

 Ok - this is the kind of top that breaks my heart a little bit.  It's so pretty, but it's also so expensive.  The kind of expensive that you can't even justify it - even on your birthday.  It's a cami.  It's a pretty cami, but a cami all the same and I don't even pay over $20 for cami's, let alone over $100.  But isn't it so pretty?!

This is too warm for this time of year.  It's also not on sale, and since I rarely buy things at full price, this is something I'll wait on to go on clearance.  Because it's pretty.

While this is simple, it's also really pretty.  The print is a floral that's in right now.  It's also a print that was in during the early 90's.  In fact I think I had a shirt with the same print.

 These are cute.  Really cute.  Dare I say...darling?  That's not usually a word I use, but its fitting.  I love the color, I love the dainty little flowers - I love everything about them.

While I saw a lot more items that I would love, but can't at the moment - that's all I have time to showcase today.

I heart them: Happy Delivieries

 *First let me just say: I have never talked to the head honcho at any of these Etsy shops. I haven't been asked nor do I get anything out of discussing these Etsy shops. I'm just telling you because I "heart" them.

Today I'd like to talk about "Happy Deliveries."  I think, like most of us, I enjoy the occasional inspirational or uplifting phrase.  I think it's even better to keep things like this around the house and Happy Deliveries has cute phrases and cute frames for just that.

Happy Deliveries is based out of Wisconsin and even has a facebook page.  The story behind her shop name is adorable too.  I like the sayings she uses and the fonts as well.

I love the white frames too.  Wouldn't the "Live well, Laugh often, Love Much" frames be adorable above a headboard?  The pricing is really affordable too - if I were you I'd take a peek.  Seriously - take a look.
